Tennessee Gets Rocked By Over 70 Girls
Learn More About What Happened at the Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp in Murfreesboro, TN09/09/2003
The Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp which took place July 28 - August 2, 2003, taught girls between the ages of 12 and 18 all the things they need to know to start a band.
The camp offered instruction in the areas of guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals as well as workshops on screenprinting (learning how to make your own band t-shirts and patches), zine making (which is learning how to use your voice by starting a fanzine, poetry book, political discourse, etc), songwriting, live sound, and band photography.
"One of the camp\'s main goals is to raise girls\' interest in music and offer instruction and encouragement, so they can use their own creativity and talent to express themselves" according to the camps website.
The camp concluded with a concert in front of friends and family where a Daisy Rock Heartbreaker Artist guitar was raffled off. Emily Espinel, 8 years old, was the lucky winner of the guitar and continues to take guitar lessons with her new heartbreaker.
Way to go girls, and congratulations Emily! Keep rocking!
